Change happens whether we want it or not, but to achieve progress we need to get involved. To create new rules, and channel human creativity in directions attuned with our value system.

The theory of small is beautiful, taught us that local self-reliance, humanly scaled systems and decreasing the distance between the decisions made and those who feel the impact are goals that are achievable, effective, and popular. Today more than at any time in our history, we need to let this wisdom guide us.

Community thrives when the idea of mutual aid is embodied. Community flags are a way to unite local self-reliance. To trade stories and skills.

Community Flag Workshop

I run community flag making for various groups of people wanting to unite. So far this has been for team building days, community activities, wedding parties or a baby showers.

It can be intimate or expansive, for a few or for many. We can set intentions, explore blockers or celebrate moments. We run community flags by gathering as a group around a piece of cloth, and sewing onto the flag or crafting smaller pieces which are appliquéd onto the canvas. I teach hand techniques which are durable and beautiful, using embroidery, boro, sashiko, plating, weaving and stitching. It is a reflective and expansive process.
